    FAQ

Interventional radiologists perform a wide range of procedures, including angiograms, embolization, biopsies, and other treatments for conditions such as cancer, blood vessel diseases, and chronic pain.

Interventional radiologic procedures are typically less invasive than traditional surgery, and they often involve the use of small catheters and other devices that are inserted through the skin and guided to the area of concern using imaging technology.

Procedure duration can vary depending on the specific procedure being performed, but many interventional radiologic procedures can be completed within a few hours or less.

Most interventional radiologic procedures are not painful, but you may feel some discomfort or pressure during the procedure. Your doctor will give you medication to help manage any pain or discomfort.

Recovery time will vary depending on the specific procedure being performed, but many interventional radiologic procedures have minimal recovery time, and patients are often able to return to their normal activities soon after the procedure.

Your doctor will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for your procedure, but generally, you will need to fast before the procedure and wear comfortable clothing. This includes avoid eating or drinking after midnight before the exam

Whether or not you will need to be sedated will depend on the specific procedure being performed, but many interventional radiologic procedures are performed with only local anesthesia.

As with any medical procedure, there are risks associated with interventional radiologic procedures, including bleeding, infection, and allergic reactions. Your doctor will discuss these risks with you prior to your procedure.

Your primary care physician or specialist can recommend an interventional radiologist or you can search online for interventional radiologists near you. Many hospitals also have an interventional radiologist on staff that you can be referred to.
